The Seaside Park and Community Arts Center consists of the 5,000-seat Ford Amphitheater, a 2.41 acre open space, and the rehabilitated former Child’s Restaurant Building located adjacent to the boardwalk in Coney Island. PHA prepared the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project. Key technical environmental issues analyzed in the EIS included the project’s effects on traffic and parking patterns and noise levels near the project site. To address concerns about concert noise, the amphitheater incorporated a number of sound reduction features, including a deployable sound curtain on the northwest side, backing sound baffles on the inside of the tensile fabric roof, and a deployable canopy extension and sound curtains on the western side.
