NEW YORK CRUISE TERMINAL
LOCATION:
Brooklyn, New York
CLIENT:
NYC Economic Development Corporation
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The NYC Economic Development Corporation is redeveloping the southern end of Red Hook piers in Brooklyn and recently built a new cruise ship terminal on Pier 12. The pier is the exclusive port for the Norwegian and Carnival Cruise Lines. PHA was retained to provide the initial transportation and planning phase to determine the best location for the new passenger terminal along the waterfront. This was followed by the award of civil engineering design services to PHA for the terminal including all passenger and vehicle circulation, loading, parking and infrastructure, both on-site and off-site. The site development included the design of the bus terminal area, and the passenger loading zones at curbside. In addition, grading, required storm sewer and site lighting was also developed. The parking lot was designed to accommodate 560 vehicles, plus 8 dedicated bus service lanes, a designated drop off zone, and pick up stations. Off-site improvements included street modifications and new signalization to improve capacity for access/egress at the terminal. PHA provided construction support services and coordination with NYCDOT and private utility companies as necessary.
